The Annual Spring Break High School Baseball Tournament in St. George

Each spring, high school baseball teams from around Utah come to St. George and Santa Clara areas of southern Utah for the annual Spring Break Baseball Tournament. Teams compete in several brackets in multiple high school fields across the St. George area. 

According to Kevin Lewis who is the director of sports marketing for St. George Area Tourism, “Our desert climate and convenient recreational facilities have made us the go-to destination for regional and national sporting events.” 

Baseball Tournament brings 140 Teams and 8,000 visitors

The St. George Spring Break Baseball Tournament attracts more than 140 baseball teams approximately 1,400-1,600 players. Each year the tournament grows, but the average amount of visitors is approximately 8,500-10,000 people when you include the families and friends of players and teams. It is a big tournament, and great fun to be in St. George with such great Spring weather for baseball. 


Baseball Field locations where games take place in St. George

Flyer Field

The historic Flyer Field in downtown St. George is the baseball field of the Flyers at Dixie High School. It was named after the beloved baseball coach Don Lay. He died in 2011. Many generations of ball players from high school across Utah have played here and loved their memories of hard-fought baseball tournaments. 

UPDATE on Flyer FieldThe Don Lay Flyer Field is being torn down to make room for the new baseball field that is nearing completion. Rumor is since the location of the field was against the street, foul balls that were hit would hit passing cars resulting in constant complaints. Controversy arose recently with the site of the new field located at the site of the old Dixie Middle School. A Save Flyer Field Facebook page was created to spread the word to in an effort to save the field and its original location. 


Elks Field

Elks Field is a great baseball field in the heart of St. George city around the corner from Dixie High School's Flyer Field. The address is 100 S. 300 E. St. George, UT.

2015 UPDATE on Elks Field: St. George City officials approved the pending sale of the 6 acre lot that Elks Field sits on in downtown St. George to the Washington County School District for the construction of a new elementary school. The action helps bring a three-way deal between the city, school district and Dixie State University one step closer to reality.

Archie Gubler Park

Archie Gubler Park is located in Santa Clara, Utah next door to the new Paradise Village at Zion vacation home resort community. There are 4 baseball fields at this park where tournament games are held for certain age groups. If your baseball team is scheduled to play games here, be sure to rent vacation home accommodations at Paradise Village to be within convenient walking distance.

Utah Competitive Soccer’s Ice Breaker Tournament

Includes 150 competitive soccer teams from around the state of Utah. This soccer tournament is sanctioned by USSSA and is available all boys and girls teams U8-U18 of any state and soccer affiliation. All soccer games are played in the St. George area including Washington, St. George, and Hurricane Utah.

Southern Utah Soccer Association’s Red Rock Invitational

Includes 80 additional soccer teams who compete.

Desert Spring Softball Championship

This popularity of this girls fast pitch softball championship tournament held in St. George helped make St. George what it is today with softball tournaments. The tournament covers two weekends in Febraury each year for different age groups; 10 and under, 14 and under, and 18 and under teams. 12 and under, and 16 and under teams competing the second weekend of the tournament. The tournament is put on by St. George city and is held at the Canyons Softball Complex. This complex is quite nice and has been recognized the last 8 years as the “Complex of the Year” by the National Softball Association.

The winning team receives a trophy and swag. The runner-up gets shirts and a placard recognizing their runner-up status. Players who hit a triple or home run are given the "Triple Threat" or "Out of the Park" t-shirt.

Rocky Mountain School of Baseball’s sizable Presidents’ Day Tournament

Visitors come for softball tournaments too such as the Desert Spring Softball Championship, and the Rocky Mountain School of Baseball’s sizable Presidents’ Day Tournament.

Pickleball Tournament 

Pickleball is very popular in St. George. More than 130 participants come together to compete at pickleball (similar to tennis except with a smaller court requiring less running). This tournament takes place in February during President's Day weekend. It is quite fun to be apart of. 

According to the Director of Tourism in St. George Roxie Sherwin, "Families love the location and the easy access to impressive places like Snow Canyon and Zion National Park."
